Sandy Springs, GA – Zane Placie, Sandy Springs resident and Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Fulton County, is contesting the election for Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor, which will be held on November 3rd.
Placie is challenging incumbent supervisors Jason Ulseth and Walter Rekuc Jr., both of whom were elected unopposed in 2018 and again in 2022. Alan Toney, the other elected supervisor, was also elected unopposed in 2016 and again in 2020 and again in 2024.
Placie is running to raise awareness that that the position of Fulton County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor exists. The supervisors, who operate out of the public eye, are meant to enforce erosion control violations. However, according to the strategic goals the supervisors adopted last year, they have also prioritized lobbying and education on behalf of environmentalist causes. Rough Draft Atlanta reported in November 2025 that Ulseth lobbied to oppose House Bill 812, which would have increased access to affordable housing.
The supervisors’ website, available at fultonswcd.com, has not been updated in more than two years and does not inform the public of their activities. The links and contact forms to view or request minutes from their recent meetings are broken.
“It’s literally easier to run for this office than to find out what they do,” said Placie.
Placie is endorsed by the Libertarian Party of Georgia and the Libertarian Party of Fulton County.
