“Words Have No Meaning”

“Words Have No Meaning”

Justice Antonin Scalia wrote in the stinging minority ruling, “We should just start calling this law SCOTUScare.” Twice the Justices have ruled on what they believed to be the intention of the law, not on the actual wording. Scalia added, “Words no longer have meaning if an Exchange that is not established by a State is ‘established by the State.'”

Those were the comments in yesterday’s 6-3 decision leaving the “SCOTUScare” tax credits in place. We are seeing laws which were not read before being passed, being interpreted by a third parties(Courts) to determine what their “true” intentions were. And so now we have intentions becoming law and the actual wording of the law set aside.

If words have no meaning, then laws have no meaning. The only meaning that will be of importance will be that which the interpreter gives the words. That will concentrate a lot of power into the hands of 9 individuals who we do not even have a chance to vote for or remove. Is this really what our Founding Fathers had in mind? Not hardly.

If we cannot rely upon the words of a law being passed to mean what they say, how are we as a society to function? We have no basis for understanding the law, planning what we need to do, and moving forward.

It’s as if we have moved into George Orwell’s 1984. We have the meanings of words and laws changed without hesitation.

What would have been wrong with the Supreme Court striking down wrongly worded legislation? Would Congress then begin to accept the responsibility to address these concerns prior to actually passing into law such bills?

Congress responsible? Not likely. They exempt themselves from these very same laws that are applied to you and I.

I’ll tell you what will happen because the Supreme Court did not reject it. We will get more of the same. Congress will pass a bill. The results of the actual wording will lead to unintended consequences. The Supreme Court will correct this for they are there to tell us what was really meant. And Congress will exempt not only itself but the Supreme Court as well.

Words actually do still have meaning. And we need to make the elections have consequences. Join us in this battle to restore our nation to a minimum government. Then maybe they can perform the responsibilities they are actually charged with competently.

Let’s promote passage of the Read the Bills Act. At the very least, should we not be able to have these bill read in their entirety before they become the law of the land?
