TAX PROTEST ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27

The socialist economic policies and unprecedented spending from the new administration and Congress have infuriated millions of Americans. The Libertarian Party of Georgia is happy to see the emergence of a nationwide movement to protest this misguided waste of taxpayer money. Although we are not affiliated with the Tea Party organization, we are particularly glad to see the movement has reached Atlanta. We wholeheartedly support their goal and their method.

Atlanta is one of many American cities where Tea Party tax protests will take place on Friday, February 27, 2009. To participate, meet on the steps of the state Capitol building at 12 Noon. Make your own picket sign! An organizer tells us these are the rules:

  • You can bring pictures of pitchforks, but not actual pitchforks (the same applies to torches, tar, and feathers)
  • Use cardboard tubes rather than wooden stakes to hold your sign
  • Even if you have a concealed carry permit, LEAVE THE WEAPON AT HOME. Weapons are forbidden at political gatherings and inside the state Capitol building.
  • The Georgia Capitol is at 206 Washington Street SW downtown. Access a map at http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Atlanta&state=GA&address=206+Washington+Street+Sw.

If you need specifics, contact the protest organizers at[email protected], or at (770) 878-0024. Their main website ishttp://atlantateaparty.blogspot.com/.

Libertarians and conservatives have points of disagreement, but one area where we are united is opposition to high taxes and big government. The Libertarian Party of Georgia wishes all success to the Atlanta Tea Party!
