The Libertarian Party of Georgia (LPGa) supports letting voters decide if they want Sunday alcohol sales in their communities under Senate Bill 16(http://www.legis.ga.gov/legis/2009_10/sum/sb16.htm).
According to Daniel Adams, Chairman of LPGa, lawmakers should stop obstructing efforts to allow voters to make local decisions on what standards they want for their communities. Allowing a vote on Sunday alcohol sales will give local voters the opportunity to set these standards, not the politicians in Atlanta, according to Adams.
“Governor Perdue campaigned on less government and ending the ‘nanny state,’ and he should step aside to allow this bill to move forward”, said Adams. “Republicans talk about less government but in reality they want more control over our lives. This issue is not about morality or raising revenue, this is about personal freedoms and responsibilities, and allowing local voters to determine local issues.”
Adams said lawmakers trust us to elect them to office, vote on tax increases, and vote on constitutional amendments that limit personal freedoms, but they balk at letting our communities vote to set community standards.
The State of Georgia is currently one of only three states in the United States that ban Sunday sales of alcoholic beverages at stores.
