Remember Tiananmen Square!

Thursday, June 4th marks the 20th anniversary of the Red Chinese crushing of dissent at Tiananmen Square. We’ve all seen the poster of one brave Chinese student standing in front of a phalanx of tanks during the seven weeks of freedom demonstrations. But on this day in 1989 those tanks didn’t stop for anything. Although the Communist government confirmed only a few deaths, it is believed many hundreds if not thousands were killed that day; in weeks to come, thousands more were arrested for daring to oppose authoritarianism.

When it comes to freedom, the Libertarian Party of Georgia rejects multi-culturalism. Authoritarianism and despotism are evil and must never be excused. There is no culture, no race, no nation that is better off in the chains of bondage. Hitler may have been voted into an office, but in no way can one say the German people gave their consent to their own oppression; that is even more so in countries where there are no elections, or where such results are pre-ordained.

Communist China exists and is an economic (as well as military) force that must be acknowledged and even dealt with. But never lose sight of the fact that its totalitarian regime is evil. The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.
