David Chastain is a native Georgian; born in Atlanta and raised in Cobb County. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he majored in real estate investment analysis and urban economics. He is married to Lori and they have three children; David 24, Jason, 22 and Kate 15.
A long time Libertarian, Chastain has been active in Cobb County organizing issue coalitions, coordinating law suits against municipal governments and participating in public debates in efforts to reign in the ever expanding government that most Georgians cannot afford. His objectives are to hold elected officials accountable and raise public awareness of the negative economic consequences of bad public policy. He bases his practical politics on sound free market principles and the reality that “There is no such thing as a free lunch.” He was the 2006 Libertarian candidate for State School Superintendent and is seeking his party’s nomination for Secretary of State in 2010. David’s career has spanned the fields of real estate, wholesale distribution and supply chain management. Presently he is a Senior Logistics Management Analyst in the defense industry.
David offers his reasons for running for Secretary of State
- I want the job.
- I want to represent the people of Georgia as their Secretary of State; making sure rules and regulations are followed and administered fairly and efficiently.
- I am alarmed that almost 1% of electronic ballots cast in Georgia are blank, or undercounted. This is unacceptable.
- I am gravely concerned about the electronic voting systems we use in Georgia. Our state is the only one with state-wide unverifiable electronic voting.
- I want to evaluate the administrative processes under the Secretary of State’s office and make sure all employees are being treated fairly and that managers and supervisors are cooperating to provide the services Georgians have been promised.
- I have traveled the highways and back roads across this state over a decade, meeting business people, owners, managers and workers, witnessing the effects of government regulation and its limitations on commerce.
- I want to make sure that all financial accounts are being used as intended by law and not abused for political gain.
- Democrats and the Republicans have given us more government than we can afford and until someone with no ties to the controlling parties of power gets elected NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE.
As Georgia’s first Libertarian Secretary of State, Chastain is committed:
- To serve a full four-year term and not vacate the office early for higher political ambitions.
- To appoint a deputy Secretary of State from the private sector that is not entwined in political circles.
- To apply Georgia’s state motto in my administration of the various boards; “wisdom, justice, and moderation.”
- To handle Investigations and findings with a commitment to due process, respect for all parties, regard for the Constitutions of the US and Georgia, and an ever-present that government is a servant of the people and not the master.
