The Libertarian Party of Georgia renews its call for passage of Senate Bill 1, the Budget Act, which would require appropriators to review a quarter of the state budget every year to remove waste and ineffective programs (also know as zero-based budgeting).
This much needed legislation unanimously passed the State Senate last year and is now stalled in the House Committee on Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight.
Daniel Adams, Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Georgia (LPGa), gave the bill high marks. “This is a common sense piece of legislation that must be adopted by the House and signed into law,” Adams said.
This legislation has been introduced in each of the past few sessions but has not passed both chambers by Sine Die, the last day of the legislative session.
“With all the talk about budget cuts, it is not too much to ask that the stop stalling and move this legislation out of committee and get it passed,” said Jason Pye, LP Georgia’s Legislative Director. Pye added, “The taxpayers of this state deserve no less.”
