Georgia’s Move Over Law – Is the law broken?

Capture_2Georgia’s “Move Over Law” was supposed to enhance public safety by requiring drivers to slow down or move over when emergency vehicles are in service. But some in Gwinnett County say the law is being used for nothing more than “revenue enhancement”. In this WSB TV report some are asking is the law broken?

“That is open to the officer’s interpretation and sometimes should be decided by a judge,” admitted Corporal Jake Smith, Gwinnett Police spokesman.

Gwinnett police routinely set up operations to educate drivers. One officer parks with his lights on and another waits to catch those who don’t move over.

“If they’re educating the public, they need to write a warning instead of writing a ticket,” said State Sen. Jeff Mullis, R Chickamauga.  Read more >>>
