Choose the Government YOU Want

Every two years, we have the ability to completely remove and replace the U.S. House of Representatives, one-third of the U.S. Senate, and the entirety of our state legislature without a single act of violence or a single drop of blood being shed.  It seems that there are those among us that forget that very thoughtful foresight and planning by the Founding Fathers and those that drafted the second Georgia Constitution in 1789.
Despite hurdles to get on the ballot, Libertarians have the answers to many, if not all, of the issues facing this nation and the state of Georgia.  Why is it that despite being correct consistently, Libertarians have not made headway in national or Georgia politics?  We can all whine about ballot access laws, being ignored by the media, and a lack of funding and support, but why aren’t we seizing the opportunities we’ve been presented with for recruitment?  We had eight years of one of the worst presidents in the last 50 in George W. Bush, followed immediately by someone who can’t stop campaigning for the growth of government as a solution to every problem, real or imagined, in Barack Obama, but we still have not capitalized on these opportunities.  Perhaps we just aren’t asking the right questions.

Questions like:

    • Are YOU better off having Republicans pass one of the largest unfunded liabilities we’ve ever seen in Medicare Part D?
    • What do YOU get from prohibiting a marriage between two people who love one another, but happen to be of the same gender?
    • Are YOU benefiting from the $800+ billion stimulus package passed by Democrats that was “necessary” to keep unemployment below 8%?
    • Is YOUR son or daughter getting a better education since the passage of No Child Left Behind?
    • Are YOU safer having our military occupying and “stabilizing” Afghanistan and Iraq, rather than providing for the national defense?
    • Will YOU benefit from a tax increase?
    • Are YOU in better health or with a better outlook toward your medical care now that ObamaCare has been signed into law?
    • How do YOU benefit from being prohibited from buying alcohol on a Sunday afternoon?
    • Are YOU reaping the rewards of growing the national debt from $5.73 trillion on January 20, 2001 to $10.63 trillion on January 20, 2009?
    • Are YOU in a better financial position after the national debt grew from $10.63 trillion on January 20, 2009 to nearly $13 trillion today?
    • Do YOU feel safer knowing that the government can tap your phone without a warrant, because you *might* be a terrorist?

Each of the questions above directly relate to a program, regulation, or prohibition designed by either Democrats, Republicans or is a dreaded “bi-partisan” solution that only GROWS the size of government.  If a bigger government and more red tape are the answer, why did our Founding Fathers establish a very small base from which our nation could be governed?  If they were right to cut ties with England and establish a republic, why do we move closer to the “mob rule” that democracy allows, as the majority seeks to oppress the minority?

Most of this post was filled with questions, but there is an answer that does not rely on reforming “Team D” or “Team R” into what we would like to see.  That answer lies within the Party of Principle, the only party committed to smaller government, lower taxes, and more freedom ALL THE TIME, not only when it is politically convenient.  That answer is the Libertarian Party.
If you despise big government and all that it entails, your party IS the Libertarian Party.  It’s time to come home.  Choose the government YOU want… Not the one who’ll throw the most scraps your way after they’ve feasted on the prime cuts.
